Alaska is still the most sexually infected state in America dot that is according to a comprehensive map of stitch across the united states based on 2016 data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
The map shows the rate of sexually transmitted infections has rocketed nationally but the increase is skewed while New Yorkers and Californians have the most sex the last frontier as Alaska is known fields far more diagnoses of chlamydia gonorrhea and syphilis per capita the top ten is rounded out by the southern states of Oklahoma Louisiana Alabama Georgia Arkansas in the Carolinas as well as Delaware in New Mexico
But experts warn Maryland has seen the most dangerously rapid increase in diagnosis of gonorrhea and chlamydia in the last year pushing it up from 24th place to 18 Vermont meanwhile is the state with the safest sex when it comes to sexually transmitted infections followed by New Hampshire West Virginia Maine and Utah.
Delaware saw the second-fastest increase climbing five spots from 14th to ninth Georgia forth Indiana 23rd Virginia 25th and North Dakota 26th tied third for greatest increases they all moved up three places in the rankings Hawaii saw the most significant drop in sexually transmitted infections last year falling eight spots from 20th to 28th thanks largely to a drop in chlamydia infections looking specifically at national rates of STD infections researchers saw increases across the board.
Chlamydia diagnosis went up 4.7% since while gonorrhea cases went up 18.5% in a year as the virus become increasingly resistant to treatment the rate of primary and secondary syphilis infections went up 17.6% since 2015.
The biggest increase was seen in cases of congenital syphilis which went up 21.6% increases in STDs are a clear warning of a growing threat the Dr. Jonathan Mermin director of the CDC’s National Center for HIV/AIDs viral hepatitis STD and TB Prevention said.
STDs are persistent enemy growing a number and outpacing our ability to respond approximately 20 million new STD infections occur each year and the cost to the US healthcare system is estimated to be as much as 16 million dollars annually dr. Gayle Boland director of the CDC’s division of STD prevention has recommended improvements to the surveillance systems that collect data on new STD cases and that people with diagnosis should be provided access to treatment.
She’ve also emphasized the importance of continued study of STDs which include the risk of infertility and a greater vulnerability for HIV among other health effects it is my hope that a decade from now we will be reporting on progress instead of more health inequity in our society Dr. Bollen says
Chlamydia is a sexually transmitted disease that can infect males and females gravity stems from bacteria called chlamydia trachomatis it is passed through contact via vaginal anal or oral sex I if left untreated it can damage a woman’s fallopian tubes and cause infertility in very rare cases it can cause infertility in men too DHE majority of people do not feel symptoms of Chlamydia doctors recommend getting regular STD tests urine tests or swab to detect it dot however some do experience some side effects.
Pain and swelling in one or both testicles rarely the infection is easily treated with antibiotics a very similar STD to chlamydia gonorrhea is also bacterial spread through contact women typically do not see symptoms but men do dot when a woman does experience symptoms they are very mild and easily mistaken for a bladder infection doctors recommend getting regular STD tests urine tests or swab to detect a white yellow or green discharge from the penis gonorrhea is curable with antibiotics although health officials fear this may be the first untreatable STD as the bacteria builds up resistance to our standard methods of treatment
The CDC recommends treating the infection with a combination of two antibiotics as a thoroughness in and ceftriaxone the infection has already become immune to penicillin tetracycline in fluoroquinolones increasingly gonorrhea is building up a resistance to the individual drugs a chronic bacterial disease syphilis can be contracted by other means but is typically a sexually transmitted disease in very rare cases it can be spread through prolonged kissing as well as the more common routes of transmission vaginal anal and oral sex it comes from the bacteria Treponema pallidum dot suffers develop sores though these can often go ignored.
Small painless sores like ulcers on genitals her in the mouth appear within ten to 90 days after the exposure they disappear within six weeks and do not leave a scar before developing to stage two. Rosy rash on the palms of the hand insults at the feet this all fades away without treatment before developing into stage three without treatment it can progress to more severe issues with the heart brain and nerves in the early stages patients can receive an injection of benzathine penicillin G this will not undo the internal damage but will eliminate the infection that fo are those with latent syphilis and are unsure how long they had it doctors recommend having three doses of the penicillin injection seven days apart from each other
